The Market Development and Strategy Research Analyst will be the team’s “insight engine,” turning disparate data into actionable intelligence that sharpens our commercial strategy and fuels revenue growth. Working closely with senior Market Development & Strategy colleagues, Business Development, and Marketing, you will:
  • Drive competitive intelligence on CDMOs, biotechs, and big pharma
  • Analyze clinical and commercial pipelines to better understand potential sales opportunities for CGT, Small Molecule, and Contract Testing
  • Size markets, build market and sales forecasting models, and test key assumptions
  • Design and execute ad-hoc primary research to answer urgent strategic questions as needed
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who combines scientific domain knowledge with strong analytical rigor and business curiosity. This role will report to the Associate Director, Market Development & Strategy.

*SKPT has office locations in CA and PA. While this position can be performed remotely, the candidate should expect some travel to our business and office locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Competitive & Market Intelligence – Track peer CDMOs, emerging technologies, M&A, and funding flows; maintain dashboards and concise written briefs for the commercial leadership team

Pipeline & Opportunity Analysis – Mine public/paid databases (e.g., GlobalData, AlphaSights, Investor pages, etc.) for asset-level insights; flag novel modalities or trials that align with SKPT capabilities

Market Sizing & Forecasting Support – Build TAM/SAM models, scenario analyses, and revenue forecasts to inform capacity planning and go-to-market decisions


Client Engagement and Support - Promptly engage, qualify, and nurture inbound marketing leads generated through various channels. Conduct initial needs assessment to understand customer requirements and pain-points and identify opportunities to support. Provide seamless transition of customer support to Business Development colleagues.

Outbound Lead Generation and Conversion - Prospect, qualify and generate leads through outbound calls, emails, and other channels to identify potential customers. In partnership with Business Development and Marketing, develop and deploy strategic sales campaigns and initiatives, including tailored nurturing strategies that address needs and provide value to customers and their organizations.

Commercial Enablement – Prepare slide decks, one-pagers, and talking points for BD roadshows, conferences, and key customer pitches

Lead Performance Assessment - Update and maintain the CRM database(s) through rigorous documentation of all communications with clients and potential clients to enable understanding of lead performance, process efficiency and return on investment for specific campaigns. Provide regular updates to sales and marketing on lead performance.

Technology Utilization - Leverage sales technology tools such as CRM systems, sales automation software, and communication platforms to streamline sales processes, track customer interactions, and improve efficiency.

Product Knowledge - Develop and maintain a strong understanding of capabilities, differentiators, and value-proposition. Effectively position services and technologies through various forms of customer communication. Build credibility with prospective clients during initial engagement and needs assessment.


Team Collaboration - Work closely with and effectively communicate with other members of the Business Development and Marketing teams, and collaboratively with internal cross functional teams.  Contribute to team and departmental initiatives outside of day-to-day sales and business and development activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education
Bachelor’s degree in Life Science, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, or related discipline, or Business/Finance with demonstrable life-science project work.

Experience & Skills
Industry Experience - 2–3 years in a CDMO, CRO, pharma/biotech strategy, or life-science consulting

Market Knowledge - In-depth understanding of pharmaceutical market, industry trends, competitive landscape, regulatory dynamics, and emerging opportunities and demonstrated ability to shape strategic sales initiatives and enhance sales team effectiveness.

Technical Understanding - Strong understanding of Small Molecule and/or Advanced Therapies/Biologics drug development manufacturing processes, analytical testing and regulatory requirements and demonstrated ability to leverage knowledge to drive and influence commercial team success.

Data-Driven Decision-Making - Proficiency in analyzing sales data and metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement. This data-driven approach helps optimize sales processes and maximize results.

Collaboration and Teamwork - A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including marketing and business development, to drive overall business success.

SKILLS
  • Proven ability to distill large data sets (clinical, financial, market) into concise insights
  • Working knowledge of drug development stages, GMP manufacturing, and regulatory basics
  • Comfortable with databases such as Globaldata, Clarivate, PitchBook, or similar
  • High proficiency in Excel, experience with Power BI or Tableau preferred
  • Strong written/visual storytelling skills (PowerPoint, Word)
  • Self-starter mindset: able to scope a problem, find data, and propose solutions with minimal hand-holding
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; thrives in cross-functional, multicultural teams
  • Familiarity with Salesforce CRM platform and marketing automation tools is advantageous
  • Willingness to travel domestically/internationally as business needs dictate (~10 %)
